HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY
Radiation Oncology
Scottsdale Hyperbaric Center provides Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) as an adjunctive treatment for radiation-induced tissue injury. HBOT is FDA- and Medicare-approved for delayed radiation tissue injury and is used to support healing in patients experiencing radiation-related complications.
Radiation Therapy and Tissue Injury
Radiation therapy can result in progressive injury to surrounding healthy tissues due to vascular damage and reduced oxygen delivery. Common complications include:

Soft tissue and bone necrosis

Chronic non-healing wounds

Fibrosis and scarring
-
Reduced tissue perfusion and oxygenation
These changes may impair tissue repair and contribute to persistent symptoms.
Role of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
HBOT increases oxygen delivery to hypoxic tissues and supports angiogenesis in irradiated tissue. Treatment protocols follow established clinical guidelines, including those from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). Each patient is evaluated individually to determine medical appropriateness for therapy.
