During a hyperbaric oxygen treatment, the patient breathes 100% oxygen intermittently while inside a treatment chamber that is pressurized at a level greater than sea level. HBOT is an established technology which assists in resolving certain recalcitrant, expensive, or otherwise hopeless medical problems. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy promotes healing by enhancing fibroblast replication, collagen synthesis, neovascularization, and inhibits reperfusion injury. Increased oxygen at the cellular level increases the white blood cell's ability to have a lethal effect on anaerobic organisms. The greatest benefits are achieved in tissues with compromised blood flow and oxygen supply.
